Buttermilk Sunrise
Eastern Sierra Nevada, California
Resembling a scene maybe from the surface of Mars rather than the Eastern Sierra, this photograph was captured early on a cold windy morning. A friend and I were looking for possible compositions as the sun rose in the eastern distance. Just about that time it started snowing as well in that direction. This led to rich light on the Buttermilk rocks as well as an interesting sky, as you just may get a "feel" of the snow falling in the right horizon portion of the image.
